The Central Market
The Central Market filled with good food and brightly colored packaging to delight the senses. There is also more saffron and paprika here than you can shake a stick at. You see in this bowl rather large bags of saffron selling for 450 Huf each. Just for reference, 300 Huf = $1.
On one side of the market are meats and the other has the vegetables. But there is till room for sweets, naturally.
And alcohol. Lots and lots of things to drink. My Hungarian is too weak to figure out what any of this is.
But the meats. When we lived in Columbia, South Carolina, one of our running jokes was that a visit to the Piggly Wiggly supermarket would provide you with all the parts of the pig you needed to reconstruct one. I was wrong. There are pig parts here that I've never seen in a Piggly Wiggly.
Entrails of every description are available for the discerning cook. I'm pretty sure that I'm not that discerning.
And there are sausages galore.
As with the pigs, so with the chickens. With enough superglue I could reconstrcut a chicken from this display case.
Much to my surprise, there are egg yokes displayed with the hen here.
This market is large place with a second floor balcony running all around the edge and a generous center hallway.
Outside we see that the building is colorful and interestingly designed. We never got to the upstairs, so we'll have to go back.
