The Citadel
On hill not far south of the Buda Castle, we find the Citadel. Although it is currently close over some sort of legal dispute, a visit here does make for a nice place to see a panorama of the city.
The Citadel was built in 1850-54 in response to a uprising in 1848-49. While it was intended to house lots of canon that could fire on the city, it was mostly here to intimidate the citizen into behaving. Those Hapsburgs were insistent on having things their way!
We had a look about and hopped back on the bus and headed off for the Buda Castle which is in the center of this image.
