The Cemetery in Old San Juan
Elizabeth got some photos of the old cemetery in San Juan I thought I'd share with you. Above is the entrance. As you can see it is right on the shore with the Atlantic Ocean in the background.
The gate you see divides the cemetery into two parts with the rest hidden in this view lying beyond. As you will also notice, this place sits outside the fort that is a key landmark in the old part of town, nestled against the outer wall.
Below you can see gravestones attached to the wall indicating that people are buried against the wall on the outside.
Some of the graves have very fine statuary to express the grief of those left behind.
But it does seem to be a nice place to spend eternity, lying next to the blue ocean.
In the part of the cemetery not visible above, is a chapel and from inside it we see graves and the sea. This is a well maintained and peaceful place. Looking forward to going back for a longer visit.
