The Lighthouse at Cape Disappointment

This beach area and the lighthouse are favorites of photographers. In the winter, this cape is subjected to violent winds from the storms that buffet the coast. This in turn produced impressive waves battering the shore. If you search about on the intertubes you will find photos of 10-20 foot waves charging into the shore with the lighthouse in the background. Today was not one of those days...best to start carefully and avoid the extremes. But the mist and light fog in the air over the water played well with the sun as it climbed over the edge of the hill on which the lighthouse stands.

Lighthouse at Fort Worden

Just north of Port Townsend is Fort Worden. Back in June '19, just after Charlotte was born, we spend the night here at the fort in one of the officer's houses. It now functions, among other things, as a hotel. We thought we'd visit again to have a look at the lighthouse. On the way out to the point, we passed this wharf which now serves as sea life museum.

Langness Peninsula Lighthouse

There is a spit of land that sticks out into the sea and forms one arm of the bay at Castletown. This is Langness Peninsula. It was the first stop one a day of photography led by David Silvester. Among the many things he does is lead people on photo tours about the island. Today I got a personal tour to see some interesting places in a new way.

Maughold Headland and Lighthouse

Outside the Maughold church, we see across the street a field of hay bales framed by mountains and trees. You might think this is about as quintessentially Manx as you can get. But you'd be wrong.

Point No Point

North of the Kingston ferry terminal, at the northern end of the portion of the Olympic peninsula just across from Edmonds is the village of Hansville and the Point No Point lighthouse.
