Stonehenge
Now for a little trip back in time. Just outside of Esperance, WA is a complete reproduction of stonehenge. The one found in Wiltshire, UK. Built ca 5000 years ago. For some reason I do not understand, a new one was quarried and built in Australia. I guess it is to make people like me pay to see it.
On a gloriously sunny day, we stopped for a few minutes to have a look at what this place (apparently) originally looked like. It is even oriented to the solstice just as the original is.
Unlike the one in England, you can wander all through the site. There were never more than three other people there with me (time of year, no doubt) so it was easy to get photos without people in them.
I really don't understand the desire to build this very expensive thing, though. Could have brought in more money with a caravan park, I'd have thought.
The big difference between this one and the original, other than begin in Australia and 5000 years newer is that you can see the ocean from here. Just a little in this photo...
and more in this one (just along the horizon among the trees).
Welcome to Western Australia.
