Perth Royal Show

The Perth Royal Show is everything you'd expect from a state fair in the US. In addition, there are more exotic critters such as camels on display.

There were people collecting money to help the endangered owls.

And of course, you could buy food. Although I did not see any stands sells deep fried butter sticks coated in chocolate, we did find vendors selling Hot Plutos.

After a bit of nosing about on the web, I found that what we call a corn dog is here called a Dagwood Dog or a Pluto Pup. Naturally, in Australia this is reduced to just a Pluto. We did not try any of the food in the show. I value my tummy more than that.

In the center of the showgrounds is the space for showing horses.

We stopped by the heritage display to see a few old engines still hard at work.

There was a display showing the old laundry tools.

We wandered the barns to see the cattle resting and being prepped for their big moment. This woolie fellow is getting hairspray so that everything is just right before the walk down the red carpet.

There are dozen of classes and categories for the cattle competition and this fellow to first prize in his. Someone comes out and ties the ribbon around the cow's neck...as if he cares. I suspect he only is paying attention the fellow pulling on the nose ring.

Naturally, there is a section devoted to the carnival rides. All the usual ways to scare you and separate you from your money.

We had a good time walking and looking. We left after a few hours to look for lunch where real food was served and we timed it just right. Shortly after we arrived at the restaurant, it began to rain with some purpose.
