Boobies, Turnstones, and a Lava Heron

The grace and coordination of the boobies in flight as they sail along the wave crests is mesmerizing. I could stand there and watch them for hours.
The ruddy turnstone is closer and easier to photograph. His coloration contrasted with the rather drab lava rocks makes him a splendid subject for a photo.

Sometime, they even pose for you!

Ona darker section of lava, unspoiled by the beach sand that washes over the low-lying portions, climbs a lava heron. I can never tell if a heron is looking for food or just hanging out. Perhaps he is just on a short "repositioning walk" to establish a new outpost for seeking food.
