The turnstones and the plover have found a small outcropping of lava just at the water's edge to scour for food morsels.
By carefully inspecting every square inch of the surface, they hope to find a few bits to eat.
Meanwhile, the air is alive with blue-footed boobies fishing. These birds are looking for signs of life just below the surface and will dive at a moments notice to catch the next meal.
The last and the next images are interesting not only for the soaring boobies, but also for the ocean. The horizon disappears in the marine layer just off shore. Unlike the PNW where the marine layer will push up onto land, here it says just offshore. No doubt this is simply due to the fact that the land is hot and the water is cool. Nevertheless, it is curious to stand under a clear blue, sun soaked sky and find, when looking seaward, that a fog has set in.
