One of the things that the photo workshop offered that inspired this visit to Death Valley was sunrise here on the dunes at Mesquite Flat. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to do it on my own.
The sky was beginning to lighten in the east (-ish) as I walked out to find a place to stand on the dunes. It was cold (of course, it is November after all) and to my surprise, there were people already out here. But the color of the sand was glorious.
Different directions at times separated by even a few minutes give different colors. Things changed fast.
As the sun got higher in the sky, the distant hills got bluer and the dunes less red.
