Think of it as environmental portraiture. There are actually a couple people in most of today's photos. Once you find them, you can't not see them.
It is a great way to set the scale of a scene. What gets me about these two people out there on the distant dune is a) it is an effort to walk in this sand, so getting out there requires some work, 2) it is pretty darned cold out this morning and I'm sure they are really cold even after such a long walk, and III) what the hell are they doing up so ridiculously early wandering around the sand in the darkness?
This next image seems to not have people in it. I think I like the loney feel of this sort of shot more than that of one including people.
I had really hoped that overnight the absence of people and the presence of a bit of wind would erase the footprints visible everywhere and I'd get a pristine view. Alas! it was not to be.
I wonder, Steve, just how far I would have to walk out there NOT to see footprints.
