Hoover Dam - III

Notice that the water level downstream from the dam is just where it always it. This tells us that water has been released from Lake Mead at a rate to keep the water flowing to California as usual.

I love how the high voltage towers are leaning here. I saw this also at the Grand Coulee dam in Washington. This is done to get the wires up over the edge of the canyon from the generators far below.

These hydroelectric generators are always a maze of wiring as the power is extracted and put on the grid.

This is a massive bit of concrete. And it is located in the middle of a desert. The site of Hoover Dam endures extremely hot weather, and the summer of 1931 was especially torrid, with the daytime high averaging 119.9 °F (48.8 °C).[42] Sixteen workers and other riverbank residents died of heat prostration between June 25 and July 26, 1931.[43] In addition, there were 112 deaths reported as associated with the construction of the dam.[75] (Wikipedia)

This was a very serious undertaking and really transformed the southwest. It is hard to imagine another engineering feat with such far-reaching consequences in the US.
