Santuario de Chimayo - III

This Chimayo chilli seller is closed for the season. I think it would be interesting to visit when he's open, don't you?

Even though the sign claims they are open, I'm not sure this place was, in fact, open.

This place was definitely closed. but the colors and textures are great.

Aside from the gift store associate with the church, this is only place here open. Elizabeth bought some chilli here and we are still enjoying it. Always worth a visit to to buy some good chilli.

In monochrome, there is a neatness to this place with contrasts and textures guiding the eye to explore the scene. Upon closer inspection, there are always new details to find, new textures to visually 'feel'. Perhaps the intent is to give one the feeling of God's presence. Perhaps it is just the way northern New Mexico looks this time of year. Possibly my imagination. Whatever it is, it is place that compels and satisfies. I aways enjoy a visit here when I come to New Mexico.

It helps a lot that following this visit, we always go to Rancho de Chimayo for a meal. Best New Mexican food ever! If you've never been, you are missing the treat of the world.
