We decided to drive north to Jemez Springs and have a look about. This is on the southern side of the crater of the ancient volcano on which Los Alamos sits on the northern side.
It so happens that a rain storm was passing through and we got some very dramatic skies.
The dark skies and the bright yellow aspen trees make a fun contrast to the duller bushes and the shadowed hills.
Even though we are not in an area that tourists flock to to see the rock formations, there are some here and they are quite imposing.
