In addition to the park along the Rio Grande you saw yesterday, there are places north and west of the central city where one can enjoy the desert. On such place is Piedras Marcadas Canyon where there are hundreds of dark stones that are etched with native american drawings.
This is federal land and well cared for. As you can see the dark stones have had the outer surface scratched off revealing the lighter stone underneath allow the artists to draw symbols and signs that are significant to them.
One on side the marked path are stones with petroglyphs and on the other is the desert with the dessicated plants and highly adapted animals one would expect to see.
