Marine Iguana

 

Not entirely clear why this place is named Tortuga Bay since it is thick with marine iguana. Perhaps at a different time of year...

These fellows have a serious set of claws on their feet. I presume this to help them hold on in the surf while they feed. they also get quite sandy while on the beach.

THey never seem to look happy about anything, always have a frowny resting face.

I'm pretty sure that these were used in the '50's to be the giant creatures in bad sci fy movies. That row of spines down the back and huge claws seem familiar.
