The Blue-Footed Booby

This booby is a handsome bird. This one is giving me lots of time to get some portraits while he sits, preens, and relaxes before the next hunt for food.

These are diving birds, as you will see later on in photos from a different island. They are often harassed by frigate birds and pelicans who try to steal they catch.

While the coloration of the bird is neat and trim, clearly the blue feet are the distinguishing characteristic.

The name comes from the Spanish "bobo" which means foolish or silly. This name is applied to them because they seem to often have a disregard for danger. Besides, it is just fun, right?
