Another visit to the Central Market

We needed a few spices to replenish supplies, so we headed back down to the Central Market (Nagy Vásárcsarnok) to see what we could find. Armed with a list of hungarian translations of the spices we needed, we bravely ventured forth.

In spite of the fact that the market building is showing its age, there are some interesting architectural details still to be seen.

You can see that the stairs to the mezzanine already have some christmas lights hanging from them. But the interesting part of this image are the people sitting on benches at the bottom of the stairs.

Although we've seen beggars all around town, now that it is getting colder, the beggar density is increasing. This woman below is on the island in the middle of Vámház krt. in front of the market. This island is where the tram passengers load and unload. She simply lies prone on her crutch, with her hands held as if to pray, next to her cup hoping for the generosity of the passersby.
