The Church of the Elevation of the Cross

The Church of the Elevation of the Cross is externally still mostly in good shape even if very little remains inside. Above you can see the spire of the church with the Bratislava Castle on the hill in the distance. And before you ask, we did not visit the castle.

The interior of the church appears to be converted into a museum of the church with only a few parts it remaining intact.

Along the walls on either side are paintings of stained glass windows. Out limited ability to read or understand Slovakian left us unclear on if these were the windows in the church at some point or if it is rather a showing of these works.

But you can see that there is still a small set of pipes in the organ loft and the ribbed ceiling to tell you that this was a church.

At the other end is the (remains?) of the altar area. It was clearly an ornate affair at one time.

You can see that there are windows painted behind the statues suggesting what was possibly once there.

But the pieces that remain are very well done and hint of a most impressive past.

The gilt pulpit was hung from the wall on one side.

Outside, you cans still look up at the steeple and see the gargoyles poking their heads out.
