Just off the Stuart Highway is the Karlu Karlu/Devil's Marbles Conservation Reserve. This is a place filled with lots of big boulders, a picnic area and a campground. And almost not trees.
Rocks everywhere: stacked, alone, big, small, and all in a million shades of red.
In some places, the rock seem to be tossed on the ground.
In other places, it appears that they may be part of an underlying outcropping.
And in yet other places, they are an integral part of the living rock that is the center of Australia.
This looks just like the place you'd want to come to for a camping outing, right?
And for a nice picnic? Plenty of shade a the picnic table and such a nice spot for building a fire, right? We've been continually amazed at the spots Australian's pick for a picnic. Often in the full sun, as you see here, people will stop for a sandwich. We are weenies. We sit in the truck with the Air Conditioning on and away from the flies.
