On our Boat ride on the Yellow Water, we also saw lots of birds. Surprisingly for us Yanks, the crocs don't seem to be interested in eating them. This Great Egret is sunning himself with the Wandering Whistling Duck (related to the Plumed Whistling Ducks you've seen in the blog before).
No, this isn't a Cormorant, it is an Australian Darter. He fishing in the same way but has a longer neck, and as you can see, his wings and tail are quite different.
One of the stars of our visit is the Brolga. We saw him in a zoo, but it is real treat to him in the wild. He is related to the cranes.
The Comb Crested Jacana is a plentiful resident here. His huge feet make it possible for him to walk around on the water lilly pads and not sink.
These lillies are as pretty as you might imagine and the Jacana is right at home strutting about.
Here's another Great Egret chillin' in the shade with a little splash of color in the corner.
Another star of the visit is the Forest Kingfisher. His plumage of iridescent blue and orange is set off with the bright purple edging between the two along his sides. This is a a stunning bird and this guy just sat and posed for us.
This Eagle was sitting in the tree up over our head.
I'll leave your with this photo of the Forest Kingfisher to cleanse your palate after all the croc in the previous post.
