Alice Springs Reptile Center
Our first outing in Alice Springs took us the Alice Springs Reptile Center. As you might guess, this place has reptiles every where. Rather than give you a catalog of all 37 animals we saw, here are a few highlights. Above is the Mulga, also known the King Black snake.
For seriously poisonous snakes, there is the Inland Taipan.
Here's a lizard I really wanted to see in the wild, but it didn't happen. Nevertheless, here he is in captivity. The dark knob on the back of the head is an interesting thing. It is part of the camouflage. It is intended to look like the animal's head so when when he's attacked, he can lose this body part and not die. The drawback is that this doesn't grow back.
Here is a Black Headed Goanna.
This Inland Bearded Dragon is giving me a dirty look.
Related to the Horny Devil above is this Thorny Devil.
This place had lots of interesting animals to see. The one lizard missing here that I really wanted to see is the frilled lizard.
