Plantation Campground and the Grampian Mountains
Although the clouds came and went on Phillip Island, as we drove back inland at the beginning of our westward journey, we found solid cloud cover. When we arrived at the Grampian Mountains, we found a delightful place at the Plantation Campground. It is a government parkland and the camping is free. Sitting at the foot of the Grampian Mountains with the fog and rain coming and going, we pitched our tent for the first time.
In the meadow near us were kangaroos having a nosh on the grass.
We spent a very blustery, rainy night in our dry and warm tent. You'll see in a later post that we are not on the ground in our tent. Oh no, none of that plebeian stuff for us! We are about a foot off the ground on a good firm mattress, all warm and cosy in our zipped together sleeping bags.
The next morning we tried (and mostly failed) to strike camp between rain showers and hit the road. Along the way we passed endless fields of rape (used to make canola oil) with their bright yellow flowers. The contrast of the yellow and the green covered with the dramatic sky is a wonderful landscape.
Everywhere we looked was another vista to photograph.
Occasionally, the clouds would part enough for us to see the Grampian Mountains and add their grandeur to the scene.
It was a beautiful drive. I highly recommend it.
