Mambray Creek Campground
After leaving the lush farmland, we headed past Port Pirie, toward Port Augusta and stopped at the Mambray Creek Campground. As you can see the landscape is changing. This campground is nestled in a valley in the Mount Remarkable National Park that isolates it from all outside noises. We spent a delightful night with very little rain (getting drier as we head west) and no wind.
In the campground, we were cautioned to be careful and watch for the walking people and falling tree parts.
Many of the trees were impressive in the morning sun.
Finally, for those of you who are still marvelling that E is sleeping in a tent, here's our abode-on-the-road. As you can see, it is off the ground, well away from any creepy crawlies and rain puddles. We stay toasty warm and dry in our traveling nylon yurt. In addition, we have a self-inflating (very important!) air mattress inside that does an excellent job of both cushioning and insulating our undersides. We keep our shoes and assorted necessities in plastic storage boxes beside the tent to keep the water and the nasties away. All-in-all, a pretty good system.
The vendor, Kamp Rite, calls this a double tent cot. Although the metal frame that makes it easy to pitch also makes it heavy (around 80 lbs). Nevertheless, I urge those who are on the fence about tenting, to check one out. They are also available in the US.
