As you can tell, we not especially close to the bids. This makes it hard to always tell if they are scratching or if it part of the mating ritual. I suspect that this was just a scratch.
It would seem that we may be in the "have a cigarette afterwards" phase of the courtship. They are just hanging out together, enjoying the sun. We don't see any nest building because they don't really do much to build one.
Typically 1 - 3 eggs are laid in a shallow depression in the ground. The parents poop around the edges to clearly mark the nest. Both parents take turns incubating the eggs.
While on the nest, they continue to poop in and around the nest so that the hatchlings are born into a real pile of shit. You just thought your early life was crap!
