Pike Place Market - II

The market is also known for it signs and all were well lit on this day.

But, of course, there are others places that are darker and less inviting.

But the stores and restaurants all strive to be more encouraging to their clientele.

Outside there is a ramp that leads down to the "gum wall". One wall of this ramp is fairly well papered over with handbills and posters.

But the gum wall is pretty amazing. Even though it is periodically cleaned with hot water in a pressure washer, its popularity means the gum load is quickly recovered.

If you don't think too hard about what you are standing next to, there is an artistic quality to all the droopy bits of particolored gum left here. Though I do feel for the plumbers that get call out for service on any of these pipes.

Even the gas lines are not immune from the treatment.

Back inside we find the Giant Shoe Museum. The signs claim that if you put your 15 cents in the slot, we can see historically important large footwear. I didn't try so I don't know if you see anything at all for a price or free. But ya gotta admit, this wall in the hallway below the street level is pretty interesting.

And finally, apropo of nothing, here is a photo of the Space Needle at the Seattle Center. After we shopped out the Market in town, we drove here to get a bit a the armory food court and see the MoPop...the Museum of Popular Culture. The only image I got from this portion of the trip was this look up at the tower that was once the tallest building west of the Mississippi. It is pretty expensive to ride to the top and I have not yet been sufficiently motivated to invest in the adventure.
