Sitting on an old couch under a canopy at the edge of the forest was a delightful way to spend the morning watching these hummers. This green-backed hillstar is just taking in the scenery.
Now we come to the first of the "staged" photos. Our guide, Javier, found a flower, doused it with sugar water and put it on a stand. Sure enough, the birds began coming for a sip of that fine nectar. Here's one the peruvian racket tail hummers.
There was a utility line overhead and I found a long-tailed sylph sitting there for a rest between food forays.
The next one is a female peruvian racket-tail. Notice that she does not actually have the same distinctive tail as the male. However, she does have the "boots" on her feet.
