The fog comes and goes as we climb ever higher.
The trail takes us around the backside of the peak we are climbing. From here we see rock outcroppings that show us how the mountain was built. and, of course, more red cedar.
This particular stump put me in the mind of an altar in a church...standing in front of the massive shards of the granite that forms the backbone of the mountain.
The huge stones that lie along the path often form crevasses and crawl spaces that suggest that some creature may choose these spaces for a living quarter.
As we finally approach the peak, we begin to get more expansive vistas. the few deciduous trees mixed in with the evergreens provide a small accent of texture and color in a large forest of dark green. Since the colors are muted, I rendered it as a monochrome image to accent the differences.
