Finally back in Snohomish, we resume our morning routine of taking the grandkids to daycare. At 47 degrees north this time of year it still happens at or before sunrise. Once in a while, there is a break in the clouds and we can actually see the sunrise.

Sunrise over the Cascades
To take Seamus and Charlotte to daycare in the mornings, we drive down the hill that the town of Snohomish if built upon, across the farmland of the Snohomish river flood plain, and then up Seattle Hill Road to the densely inhabited and paved areas where the school is located.
We do this about 7:30 or so each morning and, at this latitude, this means we get to see the sun rise when it is possible to actually see it. With the recent rains, much to farmland is underwater and this makes a nice reflecting pool for seeing the distant mountains to the east as the sun rises.

Sunrise over the Cascades
As many of our dead readers know, one of our jobs while at home is to take the grandchildren to daycare in the mornings. In the winter, which we have mostly avoided until this year for some reason, it is a dreary business. It is dark and the sky is overcast. On this day, we were running a bit later and the sun was just coming up.

Sunrise in Douglas, Isle of Man
Our nest house sit on the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea. While we wait for our sit to begin, we are staying a few days in a hotel on the Loch Promenade. On our first morning, we got a glorious sunrise.

Uluru at Sunrise
Our last day at Yulara, we again arose early and headed down the road to Uluru for our second sunrise. We were paid for our effort with a spectacular sight of a glowing red stone.

Sunrise at Kata Tjuta
We awoke with the stars still shining brightly overhead. At this time of day and in this season, Orion was about a third of the way up in the sky. We put on yesterday's clothes, grabbed some yogurt and hit the road. In about 50 minutes, we reached the sunrise lookout for Kata Tjuta. This is a metal platform getting us up above the surrounding vegetation.

What!? Another Sunrise?
These morning just keep coming. Don't worry, they stop because we are leaving this place along the river to head inland. But don't worry we'll be back to Tasmania in December.

Another Fine Sunrise
Just so you know that an absence of sunrise/sunset photos doesn't mean that we've stopped having them, here's one for you. I know my northern hemisphere readers may be confused about life in Tasmania, but rest assured, the sun still rises and set a per usual on our side. Sometimes with delightful results.
The morning fog is thick enough to limit the direct light from the sun to a level that the camera can handle. You can just barely see the sun in the sky, more clearly see the reflection of the sun in the foreground on the water, and then the place near the far shore where the fog has lifted, is seen the brightest reflection.

Sunrise Over the Huon River
No surprise...there was another delightful sunrise here. The clearing of the fog as the sun peeks through the clouds on the horizon, conspire to create a window on the sunrise that is reflected almost perfectly in the river.
I just don't get tired of this. I hope you don't either.

I Can't Stop Taking This Picture...
Clearly, if I just sat in the backyard and watched the sun come up and go down, I'd be a happy photographer for a very long time. This is just the best time of year to be in Tasmania for sunrise/set images.

The Morning After
The calm river persisted overnight and we had a glorious sunrise to greet us. I thought you'd appreciate a couple more photos of a perfect reflection of the sky.

Sunrise
As we settle into the life in Tasmania and establish our routines, we been hanging around the house a lot and resting between fits of dog and chook feeding and laundry. We haven't had a chance to do laundry since leaving Virginia and we are bit behind. This means I spend a little time each morning looking at the sun rise.
