Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge - III

This heron sat forever looking at something he wanted to eat. I never did see him move. Would that I had that sort of patience.

This great egret has already found his lunch and is maneuvering to get lined up in his beak so he can swallow it.

He spent several minutes tossing and catching the mouse to get it turned and held just right before he tossed his head back and swallowed it alove and whole.

Even in January, there are herons with breed plumage.
