Penguins and a Great Blue Heron


On the lava near the shore, we see a penguin family. The nearest one is still molting into adult plumage.
These are small penguins. We saw the fairy penguin in Australia which is the smallest one. These are only a few inches taller and are the second smallest.


Below is a regular, full-sized bird: the great blue heron.


These are always handsome birds. I am fascinated by their intense stare from these seemingly unblinking eyes. It unnerves me, I'm sure it must effect the prey.
