Boobies and Penguins

Just south of Isabela Island is a collection of rocky, mostly barren, lava outcroppings called Los Tintoreras. Here we find blue-footed boobies and Galapagos penguins.

The blue feet really stand out against the dark lava.

This fellow posed for me quite nicely. I'm not sure what the smudge on his belly feathers is. Perhaps it is some missing feathers left from an altercation with a pelican or frigate bird.

Next we see a real Galapagos treat. Here is the only penguin that is found north of the equator. This chain of islands stretches from 1°40'N–1°36'S.

These fellows were out for a swim (probably for food) and quite near our boat.
