Our destination for this adventure is Muonio, Finland. It is located about 200 km above the arctic circle. Thus, it is not surprising that it is dark and snowing.
The lodge here has a bar and restaurant. We stayed in a separate cabin located on the banks of the Muonio river.
If you look carefully, you can see that the clock at the lodge also shows the temperature which is -11 C. Very cold, but not dangerously so.
We learned that these walls are created each winter by spraying a wooden form with artificial snow. The form is slid along and the wall is produced. Then artisans are brought in to carve the words and designs into them.
In the mornings, we had a grand buffet of choices for breakfast. Behind this was another table with the scrambled eggs, bacon, and sausage for those needing a full English breakfast. I went with the yogurt and fruit compote and some cookies.
