The Blue Heron in Breeding Plumage
As the sun shines and warms Lummi Island, the wildlife some out for the usual spring time activities.
One of the visitors is the Great Blue Heron in breeding plumage.
He was doing some fishing in the shallows near us and would fly from place to place to improve his chances.
Here you can see his breeding plumage swaying the breeze as he negotiates a landing.
He's a handsome fellow and graceful as he touches down.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the island, we can see the Orcas Island in the distance.
There is a small church and cemetery on the island. We stopped to have a look (naturally) and the most interesting grave marker is one that is illegible and covered with moss.
