Whitekirk, St. Mary's Church

As we continued back from North Berwick, we stopped at Whitekirk, no doubt named after the appearance of this small medieval church. While the original structure on this site dates to the 12th century, construction on the current structure began in 1439.

In St. Mary's Chruchyard

Outside the church, is a cemetery that reflects the surrounding community.

St. Mary's Church, Battle

The Benedictines built the church and abbey on the site of the battlefield next door. In around 1115, Abbot Ralph built this church to serve the people of the community that had grown up around the abbey.
