There are plenty of hungry birds out here and many are quite successful fishers.
Down the throat go the midshipmen in a single glup of a heron.
No doubt part of reason that the birds are eating so ravenously is that we can see the breeding plumage (the long feather on the back of the head) on many of the herons. Probably by now there are nests of little ones and food is required for the family.
Gobble, gobble!
