It is not surprising that the herons, with their long bills, are successful fishers.
They choose the places where the water is shallow and slow moving so they can easily see the prey and pounce.
But, of course, the are not the only ones to find lunch here. Even the sea gulls who often scavenge, are her fending for themselves.
I often wonder if the caught fish actually know what is about to happen to them. Surely, you'd think, that having swam about for even a little while, he'd have seen comrades disappear this way. But their brains are small, so perhaps not.
