Sea Lake

Our first stop on the way north from Melbourne was Sea Lake. This small village is on the shore of Lake Tyrell. This is a lake with never more than a few inches of water, most of which had evaporated at the time the of our visit.

The strong evaporation leaves a salt pan that shows up pinkish-white in the images. This region of Victoria is the wheat belt. The lake and the road for many, many miles in any direction are surrounded by golden wheat fields.

The afternoon we arrived, we drove out the viewing platform near the lake to see what we could see.

What we saw was wheat fields bordering a mostly dry lake.

The place we stayed was a nice little motel with no humans around. The check-in was automated. You put in the your credit card and follow instructions. The key is dropped in the box when you leave. we did see the cleaning person the next morning, but that was all.
