Araluen Botanical Garden

The Araluen Botanical Garden is located about an hour north of Mandurah. We decided to visit to see the flowers we've been hearing about. While it was surprisingly low on birds, it was a rich environment of flowers.

We had hoped that we might see a new bird but even though we were in the hills east of Perth where there, in fact, might be a couple new ones, the park was a busy place filled with picnic-ers and a wedding. Since birds don't hang around crowds, we decided to simply enjoy the flowers.

There was japonica...

and bluebell. Even a bee to keep the bluebell company.

The banksia was also blooming with its unique flower.

And then there were tulips. These were planted everywhere. Not in great  expanses, but in smaller beds with lots of variety.

Some are just over-the-top colorful.

Others, elegant in their simplicity.

These purple flowers really added to the scene. Lots of color everywhere.

To give you sense of the activities in the park while were there, here's a snippet of some Balinese music. Not your typical western music.
