Whales!

As teased in the previous post, there were whales to be seen at the Head of Bight. The southern right whale comes north to the bight to calve before heading south for the summer to feast in the rich cold waters of the antarctic. We were able to see at least 9 whales on our visit, mostly mother and calf pairs.

So serene swimming along together.

I expended lost of pixels trying to catch them exhaling with limited success.

There was one fellow, a bit farther from shore, who was enjoying himself with some breeching.

But the real fascination was with the mother/child pairs as they lazily swam nearer to shore as if to watch us.

Once in awhile I could catch the exhale plume in the air.

But mostly, there were just long periods of easy traveling together. Good travels and Godspeed to our leviathan friends.
