Brisbane Botanic Garden

Earlier, we visited the Botanic Garden in the City of Brisbane. It is located on the river surrounded by the CBD. There is a larger one at Mt Coot-Tha.

We had a cloudy day with the promise (fulfilled) of rain. As a result, we did not have a chance to cover the entire garden. We started out toward the two large ponds on the lower section of the garden (it is on the side of a hill, after all). there we found several large water dragons out for a bit of a bask.

I read on wikipedia that these critters can stay submerged for up to 90 minutes hiding. Pretty impressive.

In the pond is an old friend, the Pacific Black Duck.

And Turtles...

Away from the water we found tons of flowers and ferns. Here is a small sample of what we saw.

There is also a planetarium in the park. It has a 40 foot dome but I've not been able to find much information on the projector system online and we didn't go in - we've been to a planetarium before, after all. They are all dark on the inside, ya know.

When you make a visit to Brisbane, this is certainly a place to spend some time.
