Australian Pelicans at Cooby Dam

A visit to Cooby Dam with warmer weather finds the Australian Pelican in full form.

After circling among the clouds, the pelican comes to the shore for a landing with his friends.

While pelicans are graceful in the air, they are a bit more cumbersome on ground. Interestingly, there are things they do on the ground that are still pretty interesting.

One of these things seems to be stretching. Below is a series of shots showing a pelican stretching his neck upward as far as possible and opening that flappy bill for all it is worth.

I can only guess that it must feel good to get that lower jaw all loose and workin' in the breeze 'cause several pelicans did it.
